Serge Antoine

Serge Antoine is a senior official and French ecologist, born the October 3rd 1927 with Strasbourg, dead the March 25th 2006 with Bièvres (Yvelines)

Biography

He follows with his family his father who had joined the general De Gaulle, in June 1940 in England before settling with Algiers. He makes his higher learning with the Institut of political studies of the University of Paris then integrates ENA. Traversing the world there will remain very attached to Bièvres where he resides.

International activities

  • 1965 member of the World Society for Ekistics an governmental organization having an advisory statute near the the United Nations (ECOSOC)
  • 1969 joined the Club of Rome
  • 1972 contributes to the preparation of the Conférence of Stockholm
  • 1976 takes part in the negotiations of the Convention of Barcelona for the protection of the Mediterranean. Initiate at the time of this Conference, a study of the area and which is today the Blue Plan which aims at coordinating the environmental policy of the countries on the Mediterranean. He is vice-president of the Blue Plan since 1985.
  • 1992 it is named special adviser of Maurice Strong, the organizer of the Sommet of the Earth of Rio, where it contributes to write chapter 28 of the Agenda 21 on the role of the local government agencies which proposes to them to work out Diaries 21 buildings.
  • 1996, it recommends the installation of the Mediterranean Commission of which he became member representing France
  • member of the editorial board of the Institute of the world resources
