Senuc
Senuc is a common French, located in the department of the the Ardennes and the area Champagne-Ardenne.
Geography
Senuc is a commune of the south-east of the the Ardennes, pertaining to the canton of Grandpré. It is in extreme cases of the forest of the Argonne and sees the Surface and Aisne to meet.
History
A Prieuré depend on the Abbaye Saint-Remi of Rheims is attested in Senuc since XIe century. One honoured a local saint there, Oriculus (holy Oricle) which, according to Flodoard, would have been massacred by the Huns in Ve century, with his/her sisters Oricula and Basilica. The saint, decapitated Céphalophore, washed his head with a fountain which became a place of pilgrimage - and which one identifies today with the laundrette of the village. Then, its head between the hands, it gained the tomb which it had prepared in advance. Its relics would have been raised by the archbishop Seulfus between 922 and 925. - (cf Life of the Saints and Happy… by the RR. PP. Benedictines of Paris, volume XI, 1954, pp. 591-992). The church has an interesting statue of the saint out of wooden painted of the XVIIe century.More recently, the Gestapo had installed a command there, in the castle of the village. At the time of its presence, an big event of the history of the village proceeded: the capture of 5 men at the dawn of the Release. Two of them were young men of a vaingtaine of year, of which Lucien Dauffy, FFI, which was tortured during one week before the German command does not decide that everyone is carried out.
