Sempu
Sempu is an island located at 800 meters of the southern part of the province Indonesia of Java Is, to approximately 70 km in the south of the town of Malang. The island makes 3,9 km length on 3,6 km broad. Its topography consists mainly of hills whose altitude goes from 50 to 100 meters to the top of the sea level. Its littoral primarily consists of cliffs limestones characteristic of the frontage of the island of Java on the Indian Ocean.
One reaches Sempu from the village of Sendang Biru, the most important fishing port of the southern part of Java.
Environment and tourism
Uninhabited, Sempu is a natural reserve. Fauna consists of 12 species from mammals, 36 of birds and 3 of reptiles. One finds there in particular stags, monkeys, wild boars and panthers.One finds a cave natural with 2,5 kilometers of the beach of Teluk Sumber (" the bay with the sources"). Located at 25 meters with the top of the sea level, it has sources of fresh water, from where the name of the place. The cave has 20 meters of length and 3 meters broad. On the southern part escarpée caves are which shelter terns.
Sempu has two lakes, Lele and Segara Anakan, which one can gain with foot since bay of Teluk Semut (" the bay with the fourmis"). On the way of Lele the bay of Teluk Waru and the beach of Pasir Putih (" are; sand blanc"), which is the point of unloading on Sempu and a place from where one can contemplate the activity of the fishermen on Java.
