Scopas
Scopas (in Greek old Σκόπας / Skópas ), (v. 420 - 330 av. J. - C.) is a famous sculptor and Greek, native architect of Paros in the Cyclades.
Work
He collaborated with Praxitèle and carried out part of the Mausolée of Halicarnasse. He deals with the rebuilding of the temple of Athéna Aléa with Tégée, destroyed by a fire in 395 av. J. - C. Among the mythological subjects tackled appears hunting in the Sanglier of Calydon (pediment of frontage) and Achille against Télèphe fights it (back pediment). One probably owes him several buildings with the Sanctuaire of the Large Gods of Samothrace.
One also allots to him:
-
of the statues of Asclépios and Hygie to the temple of Asclépios with Gortyne, in Arcadie;
- a statue of Aphrodite Pandémos with Elect;
- a statue of Hécate to Argos;
- two Érinyes of the temple of the Majestic Goddesses with Athens;
- a Héraclès with Sicyone;
- an Apollo with Rhamnonte, which will be found in the temple of Apollo on the Palatin, with Rome, sung by Properce (II, 31);
- a Ménade to which several epigram S of the Greek Anthologie pays homage.
