Saye Zerbo
Saye Zerbo , born the August 27th 1932 with Tougan (Province of Sourou), is a soldier and Burkinabe politician, president of the Upper Volta of the November 25th 1980 with the November 7th 1982.
Biography
After studies with the Mali and Saint-Louis of Senegal, he is pupil with the military special École of Saint-Cyr military school. He is used in the troops French parachutists during the Guerre as Indo-China, then of the Guerre of Algeria. After the independence of the Upper Volta, in 1960, it leaves the French Army to join the army of the new State.
He is Foreign Minister in the government of Sangoulé Lamizana, of 1974 to 1976, after having ordered the armed forces present in the capital and having directed the intelligence services of the voltaic army.
November 25th, 1980, it takes the head of a coup d'etat against president Lamizana, who had just been re-elected democratically into 198, and becomes Head of the State and the government. The application of the Constitution of 1977 is suspended; a Military committee of rectification for national progress (CMPRN) is set up. Saye Zerbo must face the durable hostility of the trade unions, before being reversed by Jean-Baptiste Ouédraogo, which succeeds to him the head of the Council of the hello of people (CSP).
He is imprisoned, and judged after the seizure of power by Thomas Sankara. Condemned to fifteen years of prison in May 1984, Saye Zerbo, hitherto Moslem, converts itself with Christianity into detention. Released in August 1985 after the deposition of Sankara by Blaise Compaoré; the judgment of Saye Zerbo is cancelled on February 18th, 1997 by the Supreme court known Burkina Faso.
