Saran
Saran is a common French, located in the department of the Loiret and the area Center. Its inhabitants is called Saranais.
Situation
The city is located at the north of Orleans in edge of the Forêt of Orleans.It is bordering with the towns of Orleans, of Saint-Jean-of-the-Lane, Ingré, Ormes, Gidy, Cercottes, Fleury-les-Aubrais.

Administration
The city is member of the AgglO.SIVU of the Yews was created with an aim of facilitating the management of the Cimetière Intercommunal of the Yews and sound Crématorium with Saran . Fleury-les-Aubrais and Saint-Jean-of-the-Lane is also members.
History
Remainders of a workshop of potteries, dating from the the Middle Ages, were found.An older occupation (age of iron, Period of Hallstatt, until the Early middle ages) is attested by excavations on ZAC of the orchards .
Etymology of the name of the city
- In medieval Latin: Serannus, Serannum, Sarannum, Sazannus or Sazannum (by stigmatism).
- As old French: Saram, Saren.
- primitive Form: Siromagus, i.e. " long field " ( Siros , into Gallic means long).
The medieval form Serannus proves that one pronounced Seran before saying Saran.
Moreover, it was noted that in our area, the " E " a tendency has to take the sound of the " " has;.
Creation of the commune
It is in 1793 qu' appears the first mayor of Saran: Mr Heulin. 1802 will have nevertheless to be waited until to find trace of Saran as a commune, even if the parish existed well before the revolution. From 1792 to 1844, the “House of the People” is established with the residence of the mayor. About 1830, it occupies a site street of the Suburb-Bannier. Projected since 1838, current “the old Town hall” is inaugurated in 1844.It is after the Second world war that known Saran its great expansion.
Its public service and urban development
- 1955 : Inauguration of the village hall
- 1959: The household refuse are collected 2 times per week.
- Years 1960: connections of water, cleansing, green areas
- 1966: Opening of the school complex of the Sand pits
- 1970: Startup of the lake of Médecinerie for the absorption of rain water. Construction of the room of the Lake. Construction of the basin of initiation to swimming.
- 1973: Construction of the school complex of the Maillard Oak.
All that supported the development of the contract labor (canteen, drainage system, household refuse, roadway system…) and the creation of municipal structures of public service.
From 1977 the investments (to only quote most important) are:
- the arts center Jacques-Brel;
- the nautical center;
- the hearth residence for Georges-Brassens elderly;
- work in the Vault-Old woman: opening of the Theater.
In parallel, a policy of the land reserves was led to the field of the pond, and Sands of Sary.
In the years 1980, the city continues its expansion and thus its evolution of the services:
- inauguration of the nautical center;
- taken again in control of the ZAC of Vilpot;
- completion of the suburban zone and ZAC of the Gareaux Fields (heart of the district Is);
- creation of the artisanal zone of Montaran.
In the years 1990-2000, the city was equipped:
- of a town hall,
- of a dojo,
- of a new elementary school in the district of the Borough,
- of cloakroom-platforms of the stage of athletics,
- of a market of the sports in sports complex of Jolly Wood.
The district of the Borough was refitted, in particular place of the town hall, with the destruction of the old elementary school.
Last realization, the synthetic football field comes to be added to famous sports complex on the occasion municipal Parc of the Sports Roland-Rabartin .

At the municipal level:
- the municipal technical center on the old aerodrome;
- the green casting of the castle of the pond to the lake of Médecinerie .
On the level of the agglomeration or the department:
- the new way enters the round not Rue of Tilery / Trunk road 20 until the Treatment plant of the Household refuse (Utom) while passing by the Old Road of Chartres .
- the installation of the Old aerodrome in the middle of the city with perhaps a regrouping of the private clinics of the agglomeration orléanaise, a center of public care, an installation landscape, dwellings, public equipment…
- the creation of a mécapôle along the Highway A10.
History and toponymy of some sites of Saran
- Bichardières: firm, property having belonged at the origin with the Bichard family.
- Jolly Wood: Jolly was in the beginning the owner of this wood.
- Border Them: place located close to Aydes, was agitated by the bloody events of 1870.
- Brushes: means undergrowth.
- Bruères: deformation of heathers.
- the Castle of the pond: old middle-class residence bought by the city. After its repair in 1989, it shelters the culture section, of associations, and many exposures.
- Chimoutons: in this place would have been parked the sheep coming from the Beauce. They left their dejections there.
- Chiperie: place or district inhabited by ragmen. Bate as old French: rag, rag.
- the Dovecote: of Latin columna who wants to say terminal. The Latin word columae indicates the place where the terminal was.
- the thorn-bush: old forest field whose clearing starts about 1820 to make place with agriculture. Of Latin spinosum , places covered of spines.
