Santiago Creel

Santiago Creel Miranda (born with Mexico City, the December 11th 1954) is a Mexican Politician member of the Partido Acción Naciona (SIDE, preserving).

Formation

It obtained a license of Droit to the Faculty of Law of the autonomous National university of Mexico and continued its studies with the Georgetown university then to the Université of Michoacán of which it obtains a control. It took part in the Grupo San Angel, a ONG aiming to the democratization of Mexico and gathering various political tendencies.

Political career

It was to advise citizen of the general advice of the Instituto Federal Electoral of 1994 with 1996 and federal Député of 1997 with 1999.

It was presented to the election at the post of head of government of Mexico City in 2000, election which it loses with the profit of the candidate of the Partido of Revolución Democrática (left) Andrés Manuel López Obrador. It was named Minister of Interior Department by the president Vicente Fox of which it resigns in 2005 to launch his countryside to the nomination of the SIDE for the presidential election of 2006. It is led to the first tower of the primary education with 35,5% of the votes compared with 45,7% with the vaiquor Felipe Calderón and announces that it withdraws race if it does not carry the second turn. In spite of a severe defeat (36,2% compared with 50,6% for its main adversary), it is presented to the third turn which it also loses.

He was elected senator (period 2006 - 2012) via the list system 2006 then chief of the SIDE group in this assembly.

Controversies

He was implied in two cases.

End March 2005, the journalist Marcela Gómez Salce written in the Milenio Diario about a negotiation supposed between Santiago Creel - then Minister of Interior Department - and Roberto Madrazo - then president of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) - so that deputies of the PRI vote in favor of the lifting of the immunity of the head of government of Mexico City, Andrés Manuel López Obrador of the Partido of Revolución Democrática (PRD) in exchanges of advantages economic in favor of the States controlled by the PRI. The goal is to make it condemn for non-observance of a legal decision and draw aside it from the race to présidenitelle of which it is one of the favorites. In front of the denial of the minister, the journalist gives his source: the president of the PRI itself, which denies at once. With the finale, the majority of the deputies of the PRI vote the lifting of immunity. This business undermines the candidature for the nomination of Santiago Creel which is, hitherto, favorite.

In 2006, it is seen implied in the business of the scandals vidéos of Ahumada, a Argentinian Entrepreneur which produced vidéos against members of the government of Mexico City directed by Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The contractor declared by video since Cuba that Santiago créel and other members of the SIDE concluded an agreement with him: protection in exchange of these vidéos, intended to undermine the candidature of López Obrador for the presidential one. The contractor then contradicted, indicating that these consents had summers forced by the cuban government.
