Santi Buglioni

Santi Buglioni , born Santi di Michele (1494 - 1576) is a sculptor and an Italian ceramist, specialist in the Terra cotta enamelled ( terracotta invetriata ).

Biography

Santi Buglioni is dedicated to architectural decorations, carries out the pavement historié of the Bibliothèque laurentienne within Niccolò Tribolo, with indications of Michel-Angel.

It makes the pavements of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, that of the Grotticina della Madama with the Jardin of Boboli, which ordered to him the Leonora duchess.

Between 1520 and 1530 (approximately), it carries out a Noli me tangere for the Bargello of Florence, between 1526 and 1528 (approximately), decoration along the frontage of the Spedale del Ceppo with Pistoia, in 1531, the Vierge with the Child between San Rocco and San Sebastiano for the Church of the Madonna del Ponte with Stia, in 1539, the monument with Giovanni paves Bande Nere with Niccolò Tribolo, then the Virgin with the Child and the Saints Jacopo Maggiore and Giovanni Gualberto , a terra cotta enamelled ( terracotta invetriata ) for the Abbey of Vallombreuse.

In 1564, with died of Michel-Angel, it reproduces the head with the naturalness of it.

He dies on November 27th, 1576, become blind and he is buried in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Libro dei Morti mentions it like Santi di Michele Viviani, name with which will be known his/her son and his descendants, between which Vincenzo Viviani, disciple and biographer of Galileo Galilei. Some of its important works are with the Museum of Bargello, in the same room as that dedicated to Giovanni della Robbia, which had a very similar style, but which is present in more important international museums like the Louvre.

Anecdote

His/her paternal uncle Benedetto Buglioni was the competitor of Luca della Robbia by the following circumstances:
Luca della Robbia (the young person) left for France in 1529, to avoid the contagion of the plague, with his wife of second weddings Bartolomea de Leonardo Altoviti, after the death of the plague into 1527 of his first wife Agnoletta Falconieri, Buglioni become the holders of the secrecies of della Robbia in the work of the terra cotta (Vasari affirms that these secrecies were torn off with della Robbia of a woman who attended their house).
