San Antonio

San Antonio is the seat of the Comté of Bexar, in the south of the State of the Texas, with the the United States of America. According to the census of 2005 its population was of: 1256509 inhabitants, which makes of it the eighth city of the country and the second of the Texas. Its urban surface, as for it, gathers: 1889797 people. San Antonio is a tourist city whose principal attraction is the Fort Alamo, where Davy Crockett and its companions found death while resisting the Mexican army. San Antonio is called small Venice of Texas because of the channels which cross its downtown area. She is visited by 20 million people each year.
The name of the city east that of Holy Antoine de Padoue because Spanish forwarding discovered the area, in 1691, the feastday of this saint. San Antonio shelters the first museum of modern art of the Texas, Marion Koogler McNay Art Museum. The city has a strong military presence with the Fort Sam Houston, the Lackland Air Force Bases, the Randolph Air Force Bases and Brooks City Base. It is rocked by the river San Antonio.
History
Amerindian S lived originally along the river San Antonio and called the Yanaguana  surroundings;: refreshing water .
In 1691 groups of explorers and missionaries Spanish arrived in the area the day of Saint Antoine, and thus named the river. The city was as for it founded in 1718 by the Father Antonio Olivares as Mission San Antonio de Valero. Thanks to the efforts of colonists of the Canary islands this one quickly became a colony with whole share.
The Siège of Fort-Alamo took place close to the city in 1836. Today it is a museum located in the middle of the downtown area and surrounded by many hotels and tourist attractions.
