Yalta (in Ukrainian or Russian: Ялта, in Tatar: Yalta or Ялта) is a town of Ukraine, in the autonomous region of the Crimea, at the edge of the Black Sea. It counts 71  000 inhabitants approximately, 150  000 with the surrounding area (the Large Yalta ). The Crimea is regarded as the Ukrainian Riviera. Yalta is twinned besides with the town of Nice.

Yalta is a Seaside resort as well appraisal by the Russian S as by the Ukrainian S, its climate is Mediterranean and the city preserved the atmosphere of a seaside resort of the Belle time. In this atmosphere, are found there the Slavic and Mediterranean worlds.

Anton Tchekhov spent there many years of its life. The imperial family had there her residence of summer to the Palais Livadia until in 1916.

Between the 4 and the February 11th 1945, was held the Conférence of Yalta , together of meetings between the Heads of States of the the United States (Franklin D. Roosevelt), of the the USSR (Joseph Stalin) and of the the United Kingdom (Winston Churchill).

The city knew many economic difficulties after the end of the Soviet Union.

The idea that the Conférence of Yalta would have implied a true division of the world is a largely widespread point of view (absence of De Gaulle to the conference, not ratification of the convention of Geneva of 1929 by the U.R.S.S, wars of aggressions against Finland then Poland in 1939 in alliance with the Nazi Germany not predicting anything good on the nature even of the Soviet mode…). In fact, nothing in the contents agreements let appear, directly or indirectly, such a division of the world, nor even a distribution of the areas of influence of the three participating powers. It is even rather the true founding document of the " the United Nations ".

The " Declaration on Europe libérée" all the opposite envisaged. Far from giving up Eastern Europe in the USSR, she affirmed in accordance with the Charte of the Atlantic, the " right of all the people to choose their mode of gouvernement". She indifferently granted her assistance to the satellite states of the Axis as in the released States of Europe.

The division of Europe is not the result of the agreements of Yalta but of the Cold war, become inevitable since Stalin, as of 1945, had, not in virtue but with the contempt of the agreements of Yalta, started to impose on the countries Eastern Europe occupied by the Red Army with the capacities with structures " socialistes" not to say totalitarian.
