Aba , otherwise Owon, king of Hungary

Origin

Prince of Kabars, tribe of Hungary of origin khazare born at the end of the 9th century of the fusion of three more modest tribes. Perhaps the Judaïsme, majority in the aristocracy khazare would explain its name. It dominated the north of the Large Plain and the Matra mounts.

Marriage

Towards 1010, the king Etienne gave him his sister in marriage, remarkable privilege because no other Hungarian married of princess of the royal family at that time. This union was however made possible only by the preliminary baptism of Samuel. She also allowed the creation of the comitat of Ujvar, on the territories of the prince.

Rise

Several religious foundations followed: not only that of the very vast diocese of Eger but also those of the monasteries Benedictines of Abasar and Feldebrö. Samuel was several times at the head of the Hungarian reinforcements sent to support the emperor Henri II, another brother-in-law of the king, in his fight against the Polish before 1018. He became then Count Palatine of Etienne.

Succession of Etienne

With died of the crown prince Émeric, in 1031, Samuel was not retained by Etienne like potential successor. Perhaps apart from the fact that it was not blood of Arpad, its conversion did not appear entirely sincere to the king. When this one died in its turn, in 1038, it was its nephew Pierre Orseolo who was crowned.

Reign

Dice 1041, however, Pierre was driven out by his subjects because of its tyrannical control and Samuel, spokesperson of the Magyars traditionalists, was established in his place. Its aggressive policy against the Church, his desire to return to a completely levelling company, his defeats against the sanguinary Germans, his perjuries and his acts condemned it soon.

Fall

Called with the assistance by some of his opponents, the emperor Henri III crushed Samuel in July 1044 with Ménfö. He flees while the royal badges fell to the hands from the Germans. Quickly denounced and stopped, it was carried out. Its body was buried in Abasar. Pierre " Allemand" went up on the throne.
