The church of Saint-Saulge is classified historic building, of XIIe and XVIe century, with the most beautiful also classified stained glasses of Nievre. All are of XVIe century except the two stained glasses of the chorus which them date from the XIXe century (offered by Eujène Joseph Charles de Thoury). These two stained glasses are signed A.BARATTE (in Clermont-Ferrand) without date.

  • Ravisius Textor Tixier de Ravisi (v.1480-1524), humanistic, vice-chancellor of the University of Paris.

  • Dom Jean-Baptiste Delaveyne (1653-1719), founder in 1680 of the Sisters of the Charity of Nevers (see Bernadette Soubirous).
  • Joseph Louis de Thoury was born on September 7th 1780 in Sanizy (current commune of Saint-Saulge) and died on May 21st 1857 with Saint-Saulge, it was the first of the Thoury which lived in Saint-Saulge, the family having fled the French revolution due to leave its stronghold of Sanizy. It was named mayor of Saint-Saulge and knight of Malta of minority on October 30th 1819. And it built under the Second Empire the castle of Saint-Pierre-the-Vault on the commune of Saint-Saulge.
  • Eujène Joseph Charles de Thoury was born on March 31st 1817 in Saint-Saulge and died on January 15th 1896 with the castle of Saint-Pierre-the-Vault in Saint-Saulge, was elected mayor of Saint-Saulge and offered to the church of Saint-Saulge two stained glasses (of the chorus) on the request of his wife Marie-Antoinette Ayme of the Rocks of Drowning; moreover, the double armorial bearings Thoury /Noyant are reproduced on the stained glass of left (in the chorus). He is the son of Joseph Louis of Thoury.
  • Robert de Thoury (born on March 3rd 1870 with Clermont-Ferrand and dead on November 6th 1940 with the Castle of Mathas) is resulting from large the family of Thoury, he was general adviser of Nievre and elected official mayor of Saint-Saulge on May 20th 1899. He is the son of Eujène Joseph Charles of Thoury.
