In 1793, the communes of Bonnefare and Saint-Michel-of-Montaigne amalgamate under the name of Saint-Michel-and-Bonnefare .

Into 1936, Saint-Michel-and-Bonnefare change name and become again Saint-Michel-with-Montaigne .
