Saint-Méloir-of-Waves

Saint-Méloir-of-Waves is a common French, located in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine and the area Brittany.

Geography

Saint-Méloir-of-waves is located at the south-east of Saint-Malo, in the north of the Brittany.
Neighbouring communes: Saint-Malo, Saint-Coulomb, Cancale and Gouesnière.

Economy

The commune of Saint-Méloir-of-Waves is mainly turned towards agriculture. It there also has a workshop, artisanal, of blowing of glass, installs since about thirty years.

At the 21st century, a strong population of basket makers resided on the commune. They worked the wicker. They manufactured mainly " malouins" : large round and deep baskets intended for exports of potatoes. Those Ci left the Breton ports towards the English ports. The baskets manufactured were " packing perdus" (they did not return the delivery made). They had constantly to be renewed, which occupied a population of several hundreds of basket makers (gathered in various workshops) in the country of Malo Saint.

One should not confuse the basket makers of Saint-Méloir with the manniers of Cancales who manufactured baskets in chestnuts (more robust baskets used for handling by the fishermen, the oyster culturists and without doubts farmers).
