Saint-Liboire (Also accepted: St-Liboire In the past: St-Liboire of Bagot ) is a municipality in the regional Municipalité of county of the Maskoutains to the Quebec (Canada), located in the administrative area of the Montérégie. It is named in the honor of Liboire of Mans.

History

Before the foundation of Saint-Liboire, the current territory of the village east includes in the Seigneurie of Ramezay granted to Claude de Ramezay towards 1710.

The Village is founded in 1857 with an aim of offering new arable lands to clear and exploit with the colonists Catholique S resulting from the area of Saint-Hyacinthe.

It becomes the Chef-lieu Comté of Bagot, which makes the village of it where the political Assemblées of the county take place.

Moreover, two judicial bodies remained in parallel during the decade 1870 in Saint-Liboire. These authorities are the Cour of Circuit and the Cour of Magistrate for the Comté of Bagot.

With the passing of years, the village is populated people saying " Nationalist S French Canadian " in the first decades of the Twentieth century through the writings of intellectuals French Canadian like Henri Bourassa.

Then, they will become, between the Thirties and 60, " Separatist S and Anticommunist s" under the influence of Maurice Duplessis, then with the head of the government of the province of Quebec. They will remain besides faithful to the National union even after death of the charismatic chief and in spite of certain irregularities in the unfolding of the electoral campaign of 1960 in the Comté of Bagot towards the liberal candidate.

The village was then mainly identified with the Référendum S of 1980 and 1995 in favor of the independence of Quebec.

The book makes a synthesis of the history of the village, operation of its school system, municipal and of county. By the means of publicities of time, it is easy to know certain services and trades present in the village in 1957.

The work is not entirely neutral since the authors allow typical value judgments of the time (See the Grande Blackness) and are based sometimes on certain oral accounts of villager.
