Saint-Laurent-of the Var is a common French, bordering on Nice, located in the department of the the Alpes-Maritimes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.
Its inhabitants is called the Laurentins .
Under the Révolution the commune became Laurent-of-VAr .
Geography
The communal territory of Saint-Laurent-of-VAr profits from an exceptional geographical location near Nice and its Baie of the Angels and halfway between Cannes and Monaco. Built with mouth of VAr (the famous river which does not run in the department which bears its name), the marina is one of most important littoral azuréen with in its prolongation, the great walk pedestrian of the Blue Floods and the esplanade the Seagulls. The town of Saint-Laurent-of-VAr forms part, since January 2002, of the Community of Agglomeration Nice-Coast of Azure (CANCA). but also this city is not far from the Italian border and dea the Alps. It with the chance to be served by many buses and trains
History
The origin of the St. Lawrence goes up with creation, XIe century, of an old people's home intended for the travellers placed under the protection of the St. Lawrence. The village developed around the old people's home and with the activity of the Gué on the VAr: gueyeurs were charged to transport, with back of man, the travellers on other bank of the VAr until the construction of a bridge in 1792.The city sudden of important bombardments between 1943 and 1944, because of the bridge on the VAr, which made 70 dead.
Saint-Laurent-of-VAr is a common young person in full expansion. A long time, the floral and market-gardening cultures constituted the essence of its economic activity, but this image of a close past does not correspond any more to reality of today.
Equipped with a park of industrial activity active and modern in north (32 ha) and with a very dynamic sea front in the south with the commercial district of Cape 3000 and the marina, the city is resolutely turned towards the future thanks to the many buildings in construction.

Saint-Laurent-of-VAr counts many schools in spite of the small size of the city. The place is pleasant with its neighbouring hills.
Personalities related to the commune
The large artist Andre Franquin, creator of Gaston Lagaffe, the Marsupilami, Modeste and Pompon and draftsman of Spirou and Fantasio (between 1946 and 1966), is deceased on the territory of the commune, of an infarction, on January 5th, 1997. He was 73 years old.
