Saint-Jean-Cape-Ferrat
Saint-Jean-Cape-Ferrat is a common French, located in the department of the the Alpes-Maritimes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.
Its inhabitants is called the Saint-Jeannois .
History
In the past Anao , the site of Saint-Jean-Cape-Ferrat is initially occupied by the Ligures, then by the Lombards towards 575. The recluse Saint-Old people's home occupies a tower there on the part is peninsula. At the 8th century, the Sarrasins conquer the site; they will be dislodged by it only at the 11th century.In 1388, at the time of the dédition of the county of Nice, Saint-Jean-Cape-Ferrat returns to the Duché of Savoy. The site is strengthened under Savoyard protectorate; in 1561, under the reign of the Duke Emmanuel-Philibert of Savoy, the strong Saint-Old people's home is built. It will be taken and destroyed in 1706 by the Duc of Berwick, at the time of the catch of Nice by France.
Saint-Jean-Cape-Ferrat spends several times under French occupation between 1720 and 1820; it is definitively attached to the France in 1860 with the whole of the Comté of Nice.
Saint-Jean-Cape-Ferrat administratively forms part of the commune of Villefranche-sur-Mer until in 1904.
Today, Saint-Jean-Cape-Ferrat is one of the principal residential sites of the Riviera, with the many ones and luxurious properties.
Geography
Saint-Jean-Cape-Ferrat is located on the Riviera, between Nice and Monaco, at the edge of the Mediterranean. The territory of the commune is located between Villefranche-sur-Mer and Beaulieu-sur-Mer; it includes/understands the totality of the peninsula of the Cape Ferrat like, on the east coast of this last, the point Saint-Old people's home.

One of the independent sources of income of Saint-Jean-Cape-Ferrat is the Tourisme; many people is attracted every year their beaches pleasant climate
Transport
there is a regular service of bus to and of Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Nice which serves the peninsula. The museum Ile-de-France, foundation Ephrussi-of-Rothschild
In 1883 the baroness Beatrice de Rothschild, wife the millardaire Maurice Ephrussi, and acquires in 1905 seven hectares of ground on the top of Cape Ferrat, on which it makes build sompteux and luxieux Palais. It gathers all the decorative elements there, of the 15th century at the 19th century, which it joined together during its voyages. The Villa Ile-de-France (or Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild), its Garden S and its collections of Art is bequeathed to the Académie of the Art schools of the Institut of France in 1934. The villa is opened to the public in 1937.Several patrons whose Academy of the fine arts, General advice of the Alpes-Maritimes and association of the Friends of the Villa ensure the development of the villa and the gardens.
The botanical garden the Cedars
Old property of the king Léopold I of Belgium, the garden shelters an important vegetable gasoline collection. Today property of the house Marnier-Lapostolle, one cultivates there some of the plants which use the composition of the Large - marnier.
The vault Saint-Old people's home
Located on the point of the same name, the Chapelle was set up at the 17th century on the ruins of the tower having sheltered Saint-Old people's home. A bronze statue of the Virgin , 11 height meters is next to the vault.
The zoo
It accommodates panthers since April 2005 and a large variety of species Botanique S. It wants to be modern and points some for the treatment of the animals. It is open all the year.

The headlight and the semaphore
The course Ferrat was always regarded as a point of importance for navigation in the vicinity of the coast niçoise. A tower with fire thus occupied the site of the current headlight in order to announce the presence of the Cape Ferrat to the navigators. The Sardinians built a headlight in there 1827; this work was destroyed by the German army in 1944.The current Phare was rebuilt between 1949 and 1951 by the Highways Departments. High of 71 meters, the work (worth visiting) has a range of approximately 45 kilometers.
The course Ferrat is also equipped with a semaphore. It was built in 1862 on decision of Napoleon III, which wanted to establish a transmission chain on the littoral. It is today under the control of the National marine. Its current missions include/understand the regulation of the sea traffic, but also the monitoring of the departures of fire on the coast.
Others
Several pedestrian paths furrow the Cape Ferrat; one of them, the path the coastguards , makes the turn of the course by the seaside. This route, borrowing sometimes escarpés passages, was snuffed smugglers and traffickers, but also of the customs officers, from where its name.
