History
The name probably comes from Saint Geniuses who was decapitated close to Arles to have refused to transcribe the Edict of persecution of the Christians of the emperor Diocletin in 303. The name of Comolas could come from Latin cumulus (heap, hill), because of the presence of some hills and of a long stone bar called “mountain” and which culminates with 176 meters of Altitude.
With the Revolution, the village took the name of “Comolas Mountain”. Saint Geniuses, in Languedoc belonged to the enclave of the Provence, the church and the Château of Saint Geniuses belonged to the episcopal Mense of Avignon, under the terms of a donation made with the bishop Fulcherius in 911 by Louis the Blind man, King and Empereur of Italy.
During the wars and the incursions of the Large Companies, the church had been transformed into Forteresse, in the enclosure even of the castle, by the Pape Jean XXII (1317).
The church is development on a place. This church offers to the visitors a Fresque representing the martyrdom of Saint Geniuses and among the various statues that of a Saint Expédit, owner of the schoolboys, business men and candidates with the Permis to lead.
