Saint-Christol-the-Ales
Saint-Christol-the-Ales or Saint-Christol-lez-Ales is a common French, located in the department of the Gard and the area Languedoc-Roussillon.
The inhabitants of Saint-Christol are Saint-Christoliens.
Geography
Culminating point: Tighten of Avène 387 meters. Other tops: Tighten Hut (289m and its ram electric), Six-Sours (342m) and Lauzière (357m).
Cours d' water: The Gardon d' Alès, the Alzon and its Affluent Respéchas, Faverol and Carriol.
The commune of Saint-Christol-lez-Ales is surrounded of the communes of Alès, Saint-Jean-of-Pine, Bagard, Ribaute-the-Taverns, Vézénobres and Saint-Hilaire-with-Brethmas.
History

War of the Cevennes
At the beginning of the Reform towards 1560, destruction in the district of Vermeil of the church of Saint-Pierre de Vermeil.
October 5th, 1685, destruction of the temple of Rouret. It was built on a piece of 2 ares and 10 centiares with the section has number 1160 of the cadrastal map, Before 1949, its ruins were still visible, its former owners were Jean Pierre Gascuel then Mr Bouvier Cabot husband.
December 24th, 1702, battles of the Farmhouse Cauvy (also named of the farmhouse of Cauvi - farmhouse Rouge battles). Jean Cavailler, native of Ribaute the Taverns, with his Camisards, puts in escape the Ale middle-class which finds refuge, a part in the Château of Montmoirac, the other with the Château of Saint-Christol.

On the chart of 1703, the royal geographer Nicolas Iron, raises only 3 hamlets Montèze, Montmoiras and Vermel but that of Jean Cavalier Dagde raises of them 4 Montèze, Monmoirac, Vermeil and Holy Cristol.

Remarkable buildings and public places
The Pyramid: Monument, set up in 1777 on the initiative Monseigneur de Beauteville, bishop of Ales. This stone obelisk commemorates the modification of the abrupt ways connecting Montpellier (see RN 110 current), Alès and Anduze in ways suitable for motor vehicles. It would have replaced an indicating terminal Gallo-Roman E.
Religious buildings
- the church: Rebuilt in 1842 on the ruins of a church set fire to in 1702 by the camisards.

the temple: Inaugurated on January 7th, 1849.

the priory of Saint-Pierre de Vermeil built at the XVIIIe century was used as church before being partially destroyed by the Protestants at the end of the XVIIe century. At present, the building does not have any more a religious destination.

the Castle of Arenas: Rebuilt in XIVe century, it belonged to the parish of Saint Martin's day d' Arènes whose lord, François de Soussan, were one of the governors of the town of Ales. It became the property of François de Cambis (of the family of the Baron d' Alais) on October 1st, 1564.

- Research station INRA/CNRS: Compared pathology of the Department Health of the plants and environment. Established since 1966 on Saint-Christol-the-Ales and Montpellier, the Laboratory of Compared Pathology concentrates today its research activities on the set of themes “insect”, in particular the “interactions with the disease-causing agents” and the applications biotechnological which result from this.
