Séluné

The Sélune is a Fleuve French which runs in the department of the English Channel. It takes its source with Saint-Cyr-of-Bailleul the and is thrown in bay of the Mont Saint-Michel.

Sélune is a river rich in Saumon S, classified by the fishermen in first category. It is also populated of Truite S of sea, of trouts fario or rainbow, Brochet S, Tanche S, Gardon S, Sandre S, pole S and carp S.

Hydroelectric stoppings

Two hydroelectric stoppings were built on Sélune in the Années 1930: the stopping of Rock-which-Drinks and the dam Vezins.

These 2 stoppings arrive soon at the end of the concessions. 3 current locations of propose: continuity of the hydroelectric energy production such as it is done; Stop of the hydroelectric energy production and maintenance of the stoppings to maintain the presence of the 2 artificial lakes; destruction and repairing of before construction of the stoppings of the river.

Dam Vezins

This stopping is with multiple vaults, with reinforced concrete buttresses makes 36 meters in height and 276 m length. It is eight times more powerful than that of Rock-which-Drinks.

It was built of 1929 with 1932 by the Company of the driving forces of Sélune.

The engineers were Mr. Pelnard-Considers and Albert Caquot.

Its lake of reserve makes 19 km length, for a volume of 19 hm ³ and a surface of 200 ha.

During the Second world war, the dam Vezins was used to feed the arsenal of Cherbourg as well as the Atlantic Wall. A sabotage destroyed two Transformateur S, which delayed the construction of part of these fortifications.

Nowadays, a base of leisures is installed at the edge of the lake: the base of leisures of Mazure. One practices there fishing, the kayak, the oar, canoeing, etc

The stopping of Rock-which-Drinks

Located downstream from Vezins, of which it is a work of compensation, this stopping produces annually 4 million kilowatt-hours. It restores with the river a minimum flow of 2 m ³ /s. the lake of reserve is long of 5 km, 40 hectares and 4 million cubic meters of water.

The authorization of the construction of the stopping was granted by order of the prefect in August 1914. Work started in 1916 to be completed in 1919.
