Royasque

The royasque (in Royasque ruiascu , in Occitan roiasc ) is a dialect of transition between the Ligure (alpine Ligurian) and the Occitan: he generally is asserted locally and in general like occitan, but its structural features are primarily ligure. He is spoken in the high valley about the Roya, with horse on the France and the Italy.

Classification

  • From the point of view of the representations , certain religious organizations of the High-Roya assert their membership of the Occitan, others with the Ligure: Italian side, the communes where one speaks royasque (as Briga Alta) are declared " communes of language occitane" within the framework of the Law of protection of the linguistic minorities (nº 482,1999), but that is extremely criticized by the linguists and the local population.

  • From the structural point of view , the features of the Ligure is stronger than the features of the Occitan. But the royasque one is a speech of the type alpine Ligurian (with the speech close to Pigna) which is distinguished from the Ligurian of the type génois , dominating in the remainder of the ligure field.
