Roy Thomas is an author and editor of American cartoons. He was born the February 22nd 1940 in the Missouri.

Biography

Roy started its career by writing letters with Julius Schwartz and Gardner Fox, then respectively editor and author of Justice League off America . That led it to write articles for Alter Ego , fanzine specialized in the cartoon of the years 1930 and 1940, of which it will send free specimens to the editors. It then receives an offer of use of Mort Weisinger, then editor of the range of comics Superman at cd. Comics, which proposed to him to work for him as a trainee. Thomas accepted and Weisinger sent an advance to him on its wages so that it can treat to a plane ticket for New York. At the end of June 1965, Thomas arrived at the Standard Brands Building, head office of DC/National and started to work for Weisinger. Very quickly, it realized that Weisinger led the hard life to its trainees (Roy had been engaged to succeed E. Nelson Bridwell, returned by Weisinger). Arrogant and scorning, Weisinger awaited the perfection on behalf of its trainees and did not support the least error. Thomas decided to seek an exit door and found himself, on July 9th, lunching with Stan Lee, editor of Marvel Comics, which proposed to him to come to work for Marvel as author.

Thomas started to work at once for Marvel (by learning that it left for Marvel, Weisinger treated Thomas of spy and made it throw outside) and it is with Marvel that Thomas was his greater professional success. Quickly assimilating the original work methods of Stan Lee, Thomas became his second and started has to work on the various comics of Marvel ( Daredevil , Iron Man …). He replaced Lee as author of the comic Avengers . Knowing the history of the Marvel universe on the end of the fingers, Thomas integrated in this universe the heroes of the years 1930 and 1940 over which Marvel had the rights. He created thus Invaders , comic telling the adventures of Captain America, Namor and the Human Torche during the Second world war.

In 1972, Stan Lee obtained a promotion and Thomas replaced it as an editor. In parallel, the series Conan, written by Thomas and drawn by Barry Windsor Smith, gained an enormous success.

In 1981, Thomas disputed with Jim Shooter, the editor of Marvel Comics at the time, and turned over to work for cd. Comics or it started again off Justice Society America and created Infinity Inc. with Jerry Ordway. Once Shooter started from Marvel, Thomas started again to work for his comics, sometimes helped by his wife daN.

Thomas started to take his distances with cd. and Marvel during the years 1990. He currently resides in South Carolina, or he is editor of new a Alter Ego .
