Route main road 86

The trunk road 86 , is a trunk road French connecting Lyon to Nimes (situation before 2006). It is transferred in quasi-integrality to the departments by the reform from 2005.

Attention : the RN86 changes name with Condrieu, with Tupin and with Ampuis, it names henceforth Départementale 386 . The same thing intervenes in the department of Gard where it is called from now on the D6086 (between Nimes and Bagnols-sur-Cèze only). In the Department of Ardeche, it was renumbered D 86 , and in the department of the the Loire, it carries the number of D 1086 .

The only remaining section is the section of Pont-Saint-Esprit to Bagnols-sur-Cèze. Moreover, it takes again the layout of the D994 of Pont-Saint-Esprit to Bollène to be connected on the N7 then on the A7.

Role

It ensures the service road of the whole of the Vallée of the Rhone while crossing the Ardèche; the service road of the Département of Gard is done on the other hand well off this river axis, in the middle of the Garrigue and of the wine regions.

It constitutes an alternative to the N7 often encumbered in summer, which serves the Drome.

History

Before 1952, the N86 connected Lyon to Beaucaire, it was the N87 which since Remoulins served Nimes, Montpellier and Pézenas to be connected to the N9 . Since 1974, the Perrache Quay (where this road passed) located in the 2nd district of Lyon is absorbed by the highway A7.

The construction of the southern ring road of Nimes (open in 1968) involved the deviation of this road in its southern terminus, not serving the urban center more. Other openings of more or less important deviations gradually modified its layout of it, as with Borough-Saint-Andéol and Teil then with the Voulte-sur-Rhône in Ardèche.
