Rostov-sur-le-Don (in Russian Ростов-на-Дону , Rostóv-Na-Donú) is a town of Russia and the capital of the Oblast de Rostov, in the north of the the Caucasus. It is located at the edge of the Don, to about fifty kilometers of the Mer of Azov. Its population is of: 1058000 inhabitants in 2005.

History

The city was founded in 1749 by the installation of a station of draft then quickly a large fortress sheltering a colony. It is known as the carries from the Caucasus .

Economy

The city knows prosperity with many dynamic companies, and constitutes one of the greatest centers industrial, agricultural, scientific and cultural of the south of Russia.

Culture and education

Rostov-sur-le-Don has many universities and institutes of higher education, as well as the Alliance Fran1caise, British Council, three organizations German (Goethe, DAAD and the Bosch Foundation) and an American resource center in the Public library.

Twinning

Mans has an avenue in the name of its Russian counterpart. Many cultural exchanges are carried out each year between the two cities.
