Rosalba Carriera
Rosalba Carriera , born the October 7th 1675 with Venice where she died the April 15th 1757, is an Italian painter which launched the fashion of the pastel at the time of its passage to Paris in 1720. Specialist in portraits of the European nobility of his time, it was elected with the Royal Académie in 1720.
Its technique consisted in painting directly with the Pastel S, without preliminary drawing. It developed also a technique of painting on Ivoire which was also a great success in Venice near the British tourists.
One of the characteristics of this artist was to make mainly female portraits. She was one of the European first Miniaturiste S.
Its self-portrait is with Florence, in the Corridor of Vasari connecting the Palazzo Vecchio to the Palais Pitti, where a collection of autoportraits.
