In the vocabulary of construction, the roof is the space located under the frame. It can be only accessible by a trap door for the technical visits, without offering a sufficient space to the dwelling, it is a “roof worth visiting”. It can also have a sufficient volume between the structural members, it is then named “livable roof”.

There exist several types of frames making it possible to make space livable.

  • Dragon beam: it is a question of raising the Entrait, which names then dragon beam.

  • Roof with addition: one lays out the firm on a trapezoidal structure.

  • Roof in Mansart, Attic or gable roof: the firm is placed on an almost rectangular structure.
