Romorantin-Lanthenay is a common French, located in the department of Loir-et-Cher and the area Center.
Geography
The city is located in the middle of the the Sologne, on the river Sauldre. It is placed at équidistance of Orleans, Tours and Bourges

History
The current commune is resulting from fusion, the May 29th 1961 (taken by successive decrees of the January 25th and March 23rd published in the Official journal on May 28th) of the old communes of Romorantin (code INSEE: 41194, begun again by the new commune) and Lanthenay (code INSEE: 41111).

Economy
The factory Matra produced for Renault during the Eighties and Nineties, the Renault Espace (nearly 870.000 units on the whole). It was closed in 2004 by its owner, the Groupe Lagardere, following the price-cutting of the model Renault Avantime. There remains a factory of spare parts (110 paid) which also produces electric bicycles.The city lodges since 1959, a famous factory of Caméra S professional, the establishments Beaulieu .
The city has also an antenna of the Chamber of commerce and industry of Loir-et-Cher.
Famous characters
- the queen Claude of France (1499-1524) is born to with it the October 13rd 1499.
- Alfred Cornu, physicist, dies there in 1902.
- Rémy Dumoncel, resistant, is born to with it the October 28th 1888. Died in deportation in 1945, it is quoted in the Pantheon and is honoured with Yad Vashem like a Juste among the Nations.

- Parish church Notre-Dame and Saint-Etienne (XIe, XIe and XIIIe centuries, altered in XVe, XVIe, XVIIe and XIXe centuries). Property of the commune. Partially classified under the historic buildings, by decree of 1911 (date to be specified).
- Parish church Saint-Pierre, Saint-Paul, the St. Lawrence and Saint-Aignan of Lanthenay (XIIe century, altered at XVIe and XIXe centuries. Property of the commune. Indexed but not protected by the Historic buildings.
- Old church of Monthault , in Lanthenay (XIIe century, altered in XVe century). Private property, registered on the additional Inventory of the historic buildings by decree of May 7th, 1936.
- Vestiges (not destroyed in 1822) of old the abbey of bernardines Our-Lady-of-Place (XIIIe and XIVe centuries, altered in XVe and XVIe centuries, closed down in 1791 and destroyed in 1822). Private property, in particular including the church, the dovecote, two wells and the old gardens, indexed but not protected by the Historic buildings.
- monumental Cross Saint-Lazare (built at the XIXe century, Romorantin, on the site of old a maladrery destroyed at the end of the XVIIIe century). Indexed but not protected by the Historic buildings.
- Vault Our-Lady-of-Assistances alias vault of the Good Lady (XVIIe century, in Romorantin). Property of the commune, indexed but not protected by the Historic buildings.

- Old Hotel Saint-pol. , known as “house of François Ier” (XVIe century). Private property, classified under the historic buildings by decree of October 12th, 1912.
- the Carroir gilded , house with wood sides sheltering the archaeological museum.
- the Chancellery , house with sides of wood and in overhang, former to XVIe century, and which would have sheltered the royal seals of François Ier. It is classified under the historic buildings by decree of March 18th 1913. It comprises many figurines carved at the head of posts.

Museums
- Museum of the Sologne: it dates from the Fifties and was rehabilitated in new buildings in 1989 (old mills). A Voiture with dog is visible in the hall of the museum. It also shelters a library which has the collection Emile Martin comprising many old works of botany.
- Museum Matra, open in the year 2000, which comprises a collection of sport scars as well as prototypes of the firm.
Events
- the gastronomical Days of the Sologne , the last weekend of October comprise several contests of kitchen, pastry making, pork-butchery, bakery viennoisery, artistic part (sweetened, chocolate) etc. The parts are judged, according to the types of contest, according to various criteria.
- the Corrida of Christmas is a race on foot which takes place each year in December in the downtown area.
- the festival of Making off with place the every years in September since 2003. It presents Making off film amateurs and professionals. It is organized by association " MakingOf41".
- the living room of the Creators of Embroidery is held in Romorantin every year since 2005. It is organized by association " P' tits Points of Sologne".
- the commune is the seat of the Olympic stadium Romorantinais, club of evolving/moving Football this year in National (D3).
