Rod Cory Langway (born the May 3rd 1957 with Taipei, Taiwan) is a professional hockey player American reprocessed which played station of defender for the Capitals of Washington of the National league of hockey.
Born in Taiwan while his/her father, an American soldier, was there in service (he is besides the only player of the LNH to be born there), he grew with Randolph with the Massachusetts, where he started to play hockey only at age the 13 years. He also played American football during his youth and astonishment, it is a recruiter of football of the Université of New Hampshire which convinced it to play of collegial hockey with the UNH.
Its career in club
The Canadian of Montreal fished out it during the Repêchage amateur of the LNH 1977; the same year, bulldozers of Birmingham of the Worldwide association of hockey fished out it too. He played one season for the latter before joining the Canadians for the season 1978-79. He played with the Canadians until he is exchanged in Capitals for the beginning of the season 1982-83 - he passed to the Capes in company of Doug Jarvis, Craig Laughlin and Brian Engblom, while Montreal received in return Ryan Walter and Rick Green. This exchange literally saved the frankness from Capitals, which, having failed in the task to reach the series of end of season during its first 8 years of existence, appeared there finally and became the regular ones there - the Capes made the series for each of the 11 seasons when Langway played there and the supporteurs of the team regarded it as the saver of the team. However, Langway did not have at all the profile of the player of concession. Contrasting with the Bobby Orr, Bobby Hull and Brad Park, the throw of Langway was compared with " a fresh breeze estivale" and it did not mark, in all its professional path that twice more than 9 goals during one season - it will mark in only 51 times in 994 matches. But its weak offensive contribution was very largely compensated by its aptitudes in defense. Its brilliance made it possible the Capes considerably to reduce the number of goals which they allocated, to gain of the matches and incidentally, to take part in the series. As captain, Langway was a large leader who required best itself and of his fellow-members, which been worth the nickname of " to him; General secretary of Défense".
Langway gained the Trophée James Norris like better defender of the league in 1983 and 1984, in addition to deserving two presences over the first Team of Stars of the LNH and one over the second. He was also finalist for the Trophée Binder in 1982, finishing 2nd with the poll behind Wayne Gretzky. He carried also the colors of the LNH during the Rendez-Vous '87.
He was the trainer-chief for season 2003-04 of the RiverDogs of Richmond of the United Hockey League, a club of espansion which he led to a championship of division and a defeat in first round vis-a-vis the Jackals d' Elmira. The leaders of the team did not prolong however her contract once the finished season.
Its number 5 was withdrawn by Capitals the November 26th 1997 and it was allowed two years with the Temple of re-elected later hockey of the United States. One crowned his career in 2002 with his induction with the Temple of re-elected hockey.
