The Arques is a coastal Fleuve of Normandy (Seine-Maritime) which is thrown in the Manche with Dieppe. The name of the river was given, with an unspecified date of the Moyen-âge, in reference to a bridge with 3 arches spanning it; the word arch becoming thereafter Arch .

Geography

Long only of 6 kilometers, it is made of the meeting, close to Arch-the-Battles, of three rivers draining the borders of the Pays of Caux and the Pays of Bray: the Eaulne, the Béthune and the Game preserve, component thus the discharge system of this dendritic hydrographic network. The PIKE PERCH considers that Arch it and Béthune forms only one long river 67 kilometers and keeping the name of Arch. Even if there does not exist hydrological Station likely to provide precise figures, it is however possible to estimate the flow of Arques and the surface of its area catchment by adding the data of its affluents to their discharge system, is approximately 10,2 m ³ /s for: 1050 km ². In the last part of its course, the small river skirts the industrial park of Rouxmesnil-Bottles, then form the port of Dieppe.

History

The geography of Arques is recent because, until the middle of the 11th century, Eaulne, Béthune and the Game preserve, while joining, formed a deep Estuaire framed slopes with the stiff slopes.
