Robert Musil
Robert Musil (November 6th 1880, Klagenfurt, (Carinthie), Austria - April 15th 1942, Geneva) is a writer and Austrian Dramaturge .
Its large unfinished novel, the Man without qualities , is regarded as one of the novels founders of the Romance of the 20th century, with With the research of time lost of Marcel Proust and Ulysses of James Joyce.
Biography
Robert Musil is the only son of a father engineer, Albert Musil, and of his wife Hermine Bergauer. He follows from 1892 to 1897 a military formation in the various cities where his/her father is transferred, but stops his career of officer to make studies of engineer with Brünn. He is graduate in 1901. From 1903, Musil is again student, with Berlin this time, where it follows courses of philosophy and psychology, under the direction of Carl Stumpf. During its studies, Musil in addition becomes acquainted with Alfred Kerr and Franz Blei. In 1908, it obtains the title of doctor; its thesis relates to Ernst Mach. During its Berliner years, he writes the Distresses of the pupil Törless , its first novel: the intrigue evokes the ambiguous and unhealthy reports/ratios which between them the pupils maintain a military academy. This book meets a great success criticizes and gives to Musil the hope capacity food of its feather.
It turns over to Austria in 1910 and occupies a post of librarian with Vienna. It is as in this city as it Marie, in 1911, with Martha Marcovaldi.
Mobilized at the time of the First World War, he is reserve officer on the italo-Serb face.
From 1920, it resides at Berlin and works with its philosopher's stone, the Man without qualities . The first volume appears in the Rowohlt editor in 1930 and in particular the admiration of Thomas Mann attracts to him.
The arrival of the Nazis to the capacity in 1933 encourages it to leave Berlin for Austria. Then it is the Anschluss which, in 1938, the fact of emigrating for the Suisse. During these years, its health is degraded and he lives in an increasingly large financial destitution: the Nazis prohibited its works and it does not have any more public in Germany. He dies in Geneva in 1942.
Musil, one of the Austrian writers most outstanding of the 20th century, in the same way is regarded as one of the principal authors of the modern German-speaking literature. It is especially known like the author of the unfinished novel the Man without qualities . However, this novel caused few reactions after its publication at the beginning of the Années 1930. In the Years 1950, Adolf Frisé republished these extracts of novel and thus contributed in a way determining to its redécouverte.

Adaptations
