Robert Ier de Dreux

Robert Ier of Dreux , known as Large the , was born towards 1123 and died the October 11th 1188, count de Dreux, fifth wire of Louis VI the Large, king of France and Adèle of Savoy.

Biography

In 1137, it accepted, in Apanage, of his/her father, the Comté of Dreux, of which it kept the title until in 1184 when it yielded it to his son Robert II and married in 1139 Agnès de Garlande.

By its marriage, in 1145, with Harvise d' Évreux, it became count of the Pole. At the time of its weddings, in 1152, with Agnès de Braine, of which it adopted the weapons, it accepted the county of Braine and the seigniories of Fère-in-Tardenois, of Bridge-Arcy, Nesle, Longueville, Quincy-under-the-Mount, Savigny and Baudement.

Robert Ier took part in the Second crusade in 1147 and in the failure of the head office of Damas in 1148. Before the end of the crusade, it returned to France, and fomented against his brother, the king Louis the Young person, while hoping to seize the power to him. But, its action was thwarted successfully by the abbot Suger of Saint-Denis which ensured the regency of the kingdom in the absence of the roi.
During the English Civil war (1135-1154), it fought against the English and took part in 1154 in the seat of Sées in Normandy;

He died in 1188, and will be buried in the Saint-Yved abbey of Braine. This prince granted in 1180 a communal charter to the town of Dreux, already for a long time set up in commune, and founded the town of Brie-Count-Robert, thus called of his name.
