Right of the successions

The right of the successions is the whole of the legal and tax rules which govern the transmission of the inheritance of a person at the time of her death. It is a branch of the Civil law.

He inherits the successional laws founded by the first codes of the romano-Germanic Droit during the Early middle ages; for the dominant aristocracy, the goods passed in succession were the kingdoms themselves, which involved splitting up (when the principle of Primogéniture was not applied) or of the intra-dynastic bloody fights when the Séniorat prevailed.

This concept is different from the Death taxes, which are a tax taken with the resolution of the succession, founded with the French revolution, to prevent that the richnesses concentrate in some families.
