Right base line

The method of the right base lines connecting suitable points can be employed to trace the base line where the east coast deeply indented and cut out, or if there exists a string of islands along the coast, in the vicinity immediate of this one.

Convention of the United Nations on the right of the sea:

1. Where the east coast deeply indented and cut out, or if there exists a string of islands along the coast, in the vicinity immediate of this one, the method of the right base lines connecting suitable points can be employed to trace the base line from which the width of the territorial sea is measured.

2. Where the extremely unstable east coast because of the presence of a delta and other inherent characteristics, the suitable points can be selected along leaves the basic most advanced sea and, even in the event of later retreat of basic sea leaves, these right base lines remain in force as long as they were not modified by the Coastal state in accordance with Convention.

3. The layout of the right base lines should not deviate appreciably from the head office of the coast and the extents of sea located in on this side must be sufficiently related to the terrestrial field to be subjected to the mode of interior water.

4. The right base lines should not be drawn towards or since low-tide elevations, unless headlights or similar installations emerged permanently were not built there or that the layout of such right base lines was not the subject of a general international recognition.

5. Whenever the method of the right base lines applies under the terms of the paragraph 1st, it can be held account, for the establishment of certain base lines, of the economic interests suitable for the area considered whose reality and importance are obviously attested by a long use.

6. The method of the right base lines cannot be applied by a State in manner such as the territorial sea of another State is cut open sea or of an exclusive economic zone.
