Richard III of Normandy (v. 1008-1027), was duke of Normandy August 23rd 1026 with the August 6th 1027. He was the oldest son of the duke Richard Irascible the and of Judith of Brittany.
Biography
During the reign of Richard II, it is associated with the capacity. In 1024, his/her father sends it to fight Hugues, bishop of Auxerre and count de Châlon-sur-saône which retains captive the son-in-law of the duke Renaud, count de Bourgogne.Richard II dead in August 1026, it succeeds to him. Because of its brevity (one year), its principat is little known. Thanks to Guillaume de Jumièges, one knows however that it had to face the revolt of his younger brother, Robert, count of Hiémois. Besieged by the ducal army with Falaise, this one was subjected.
In 1027, Richard III marries the girl of the king de France Robert the Piles, confirming alliance with the dynasty capétienne. This union does not give a descent because the wife is in low age.
The duke dies mysteriously on August 6th, 1027 whereas it has around twenty years. Guillaume de Jumièges reveals that the poison was the reason of this early death. Robert de Torigni, which writes to almost hundred years more, about 1125, introduces the brother of the duke, Robert, like the empoisonnor. It is impossible to check. What is sure, it is that Robert is the man who draws the greatest advantage from the disappearance of his elder since he consequently becomes duke of Normandy.
