Richard Cromwell

Richard Cromwell (born the October 4th 1626 - deceased the July 12th 1712) is the third wire of Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England, Scotland and Ireland. It occupies this same station, during a few months, after the death of his father, until the May 25th 1659. The enemies of Richard Cromwell call it “ Tumbledown Dick ”.

Little before its death, which has occurred the September 3rd 1658, Oliver Cromwell designates his/her son like his successor. Richard Cromwell is proclaimed Lord Protecteur the January 27th 1659. He gives up his function as of the May 25th of the same year. After this Abdication, the general Monk recalls to the Long Parliament, which proposes the throne of England and Scotland with Charles Stuart, thus causing the English Restauration.

In the part of Victor Hugo, Cromwell , Richard Cromwell seem a character without much scale and with the badly ensured convictions, but rather jovial fellow, contrasts about it with the character of his father.
