Retort boat

A counterpart of boat is a more not existing Bateau which was rebuilt. It can be a true boat sailing or right resembling a boat, in this case it often acts of a museum. It can also represent in a generic way a type of boat.

The Model S or model reduced do not form part of the counterparts of boat.

Several ideas can be at the origin of the construction of the counterpart of a boat: historical research on the Naval construction at a given period (the Argo ), the pride of a country, an area or a city ( Recouvrance ), to be exposed in a museum ( San Juan Bautista ) or to allow the film turning ( Bounty ). However, the list of these reasons could not be exhaustive.

In general, a true counterpart is on scale 1. However, it happens that for certain reasons dimensions of the boat were changed.

Certain boats are not strictly speaking counterparts, but, during the ages, all the parts were changed. That seems to be a modern version of the philosophical dilemma of the boat of Thésée.

Certain counterparts are temporary and simple, of which the single goal is to take part in a ceremony. Often in this case, they are burned.
