Research center in numerical forecast (Canada)
The Research center in numerical forecast (RPN) is a division of research on the digital model of forecast of time of the Weather service of Canada. It is located in the buildings of the Canadian weather Center at Dorval, Quebec. It includes/understands a team multi-diciplinaire physicists, mathematicians, meteorologists, chemists, data processing specialists, etc who try to improve the Paramétrisation of the atmospheric primitive equations in the models rolled on the Superordinateur of the center.
Contributions
Its researchers and programmers contributed to a significant degree since the Années 1960, at the national and international level, in their field. Let us note the contribution of Andre Robert, one of the pioneers in the numerical forecast, which was one of the directors of the RPN.RPN develops models to solve the problems of environmental forecast atmosphere-ocean and atmosphere-hydrology. It does it so much for the short term than for long-term models for the Climate change. It also develops models of dispersion of the pollutants and volcanic ash.
