Research-action
The research-action is a methodology of scientific research founded by Kurt Lewin. She proposes a whole of techniques of research which make it possible to carry out real experiments in natural social groups. These techniques are founded on the idea that in the framework of the sociological experimentation, research and the action can be unified within the same activity.
Principles
The research-action is based on the idea that the human one and the social one, as objects of studies, shows specific characteristics which call with the installation of a methodology different from that which has course in sciences " dures" : interiority, not-determinism and singularities. It implies in the process of construction of research, as well the researcher as the actors taking part in the experimentation. For more than fifty years a specific approach in social sciences which one names research-action has emerged and was developed in the world, in particular starting from the United States of America.
Standard tests
In 1986 at the time of a conference at the Teaching National research institute (INRP, Paris), the researchers left the following definition: " It is about research in which there is an action deliberated on transformation of reality; research having a double objective: to transform reality and to produce knowledge concerning these transformations" (Hugon and Seibel, 1988, p.13). A traditional design of the research-action consists in thinking that this new methodology is only one prolongation of traditional research in Social sciences.
Various currents of research action
The existential and transpersonnelle research-action
It is about a current rather inspired by philosophies New Age or Théosophique like those of Jiddu Krishnamurti. The sympathizers of this current think that their representation of Research Action is an open door on a new epistemological revolution. They assert it like a radical transformation in the manner of conceiving and of making research in Social sciences. It would lead according to them to a new posture, more significant, as well as a new inscription of the researcher in the company, prérequis with the advent of an existential research-action. It could then be affirmed like transpersonnelle and exceed, by integrating them, theoretical specificities of social sciences as well as the various systems of sensitivities and intelligibilities proposed by the cultures of the world. To enter an research-action of this type would oblige its participants to traverse ways transdisciplinaires. This approach is more particularly asserted by expert-researchers like Rene Barbier.
