Republic of Alsace-Lorraine

The République of Alsace-Lorraine was a short independent State including/understanding the Alsace and part of the current Lorraine and since areas of the France.

Under the German Empire of 1871-1918, the territory constituted the reichsland or the imperial province of Alsace-Lorraine ( Elsass-Lothringen ). The area was then managed directly by the imperial government of Berlin, some measurements of autonomies were however granted to him in 1911.

After the collapse of the German empire during the First World War in 1918, the republic of Alsace-Lorraine was formed with the support of the American president Woodrow Wilson.

In October 1918, some German generals, led by Luddendorff, refused to admit that the war was lost. They decided to try a last-ditch struggle by using the powerful German naval army, however the troops refused to obey to them.

At this time, approximately 15.000 Alsatian and Lorraine which had been built-in the German navy joined the insurrection partly, and decided to reach their native land in order to revolt. The November 8th, the proclamation, according to the Russian model, of the Soviet republic of Bavaria (in German Bayerische Räterepublik or Münchner Räterepublik ) was known with Strasbourg, capital of the Alsace. The following days, of the thousands of demonstrators rejoined the Place Kléber, more the importance places from Strasbourg, to acclaim the first insurgent ghost of the north of Germany. A train controlled by insurrectionists was blocked on the bridge of Kehl, and a commander loyal supporter ordered to draw on the train. An insurrectionist was killed, but his/her companions took the control of the town of Kehl.

The insurgent sailors established a council of the soldiers in Strasbourg and took the control of the city. A council of the workers and soldiers then was established and chaired by the chief of the union of the brewers. Their currency was: Neither German neither French nor neutral . He proclaimed officially the Alsatian Soviet republic , the area is organized in Soviets.

Eleven days later, the area occupied and was incorporated in the France. The area gone back to France, this one set out again in the bosom of the French centralized system and lost its recently acquired autonomy.
