Reni

Reni (in Ukrainian: Рені ) is a city of the Oblast d' Odessa in Western Ukraine. It is the chief town of the Raion of Reni, and counts 20.000 inhabitants, of which nearly 50% are roumanophones.

It is located at the confluence of the river Prout and the the Danube.

History

Founded at the 16th century, this city belonged to the Bessarabia, in the Boudjak. Annexed by Russian in 1812, it was yielded by them to the Turkey in 1856, under the terms of the treated of Paris.

It formed then part of the Romania of 1918 to 1947, when it was attached to the Soviet Union.
