The Twingo is a model of Automobile manufacturer Renault presented to the Mondial of the car of Paris of 1992 and is launched in the tread in 1993. The team of design was directed by Yves Dubreil and the sketches starting were carried out by Jean-Pierre Ploué.

A panoramic roof in fabric is proposed initially on the special series " Air" , then in option. Later is proposed in option a working broad roof out of glass.

1st collection (1992)

During its launching, the car is deliberately minimalist. She addresses herself indeed initially to young customers. The car is thus proposed with only one type of fabric (a mesh with graphic reasons), only one harmony for the interior plastics (two nuances of gray) and for the interior accessories (green), at only one price: 55000 francs.
She is proposed four colors (yellow Indian, red coral, blue overseas and green coriandre) pimpantes and shifted.

2nd collection (1994)

This second collection profits from new colors of body with varnish metallized, available in yellow, green yanos, pink fuschia, red, blue cyan and blue nuit.
Two types of automobile Sellerie are available, one in blue mesh sunk on the initial versions and one out of velvet with reasons clouds. The control knobs of ventilation, of the electric panes (cranks if necessary)… are blue foncées.
Available in option, Pack Électrique adds to the equipment of series various electric bodies, like the rear view mirrors, the side window panels, and the centralized judgment of the doors and the trunk.

3rd collection (1996)

Appearance of the motorization " Energy" of 1149 cm ³, initially on the versions without air-conditioning, then generalization on the whole of the range. This engine, of cubic capacity slightly lower than the old engine known as " Cléon" derived from the Renault 8, brings better performances, better a sound-proofing and less consumption. Addition of the third fire stop with the top of the glasses arrière.
Special series " Air" and " Sari" integrate in series a manual roof sliding in fabric. On the " Sari" the fabric is coloured according to the color of the car. There will be other series special in this collection like the " Jungle" or l'" Elite"

4th collection (1998)

Twingo undergoes in 1998 deep a restylage: its indicators fronts are integrated in the headlights fronts, with a glazing not tinted, its rear lights are redrawn, and of the painted shields colors body appear, except on the initial versions.
The instrument panel is modified, it is not dug any more as on the previous models and Renault integrates the momentary airbag there. The loudspeakers go up on the top of the instrument panel. The interior control knobs are this time, yellows. The small rounds of the petrol gauge are replaced by sticks!
A new color makes its appearance and will not be taken again thereafter: the Tobago green.

5th collection (2000)

Rolling is contained well better than before, thanks to the adoption of bars stabilizer and with the increase in their diameter. Twingo slows down also shorter, thanks to its rims (14 inches from now on) and its larger brakes. As from January 2001, the engine of 60 ch 8 valves can receive a cylinder head 16 valves. In this case, the engine output passes to 75 ch and its couple from 93 to 105 Nm to 1500 tr/min.
The panels of doors are modified and accommodate from now on the loudspeakers. A fabric medallion identical to saddlery is there also apposé.
Several special series in this collection: Twingo " Perrier" or Twingo " Cinetic".

6th collection (2002)

In addition to traditional the new colors and automobile Saddlery, the sixth collection of Twingo sees appearing a new completion, Tech' Run, wanting to be more dynamic. On the technical plan, Twingo is equipped with the Aide to emergency braking (AFU) as well as system ISOFIX on the two places postpones in order not to be let outdistance by rivals of more recent design. In this respect, it is also equipped in series with a sound witness informing the driver when he which he forgot to put his belt.

7th collection (2004)

The button of opening of the trunk is modified and integrates from now on the Renault logo. It receives side rods (what can seem essential for a model intended for circulation downtown) and the rear lights are more clairs.
A very last special series " Emotion" is marketed, raising Twingo of the stickers on the front one, the back and the flancs.
A version Kenzo dyes violet of it is also proposed.

Twingo first generation was replaced on the European markets by the second generation in June 2007 (9 months pushed back launching by Carlos Ghosn, chairman of Renault, to redraw the front face). Twingo 1 will thus have been marketed on our premises during 14 years, which is exceptional in current auto industry where a car is generally replaced at the end of 8 ans.
The Twingo second generation was revealed with the Mondial of the car of Paris of 2006 in September 2006 in the form of a Concept because named " Twingo concept". Twingo II was made up there in the sporting car.

Others

  • Twingo was manufactured with the factory of Flins until June 28th, 2007. Its production continues to date in Colombia, for the sale bound for the South-Americans markets.
  • It produced forever in control on the right, for reason of savings in production costs. It was consequently never exported with the the United Kingdom or in Ireland.
  • According to the weekly magazine Car more , this vehicle belongs to preferred by the robbers, because, until 1998, Twingo were deprived of a device Antidémarrage.
