Regulidae

The family of the régulidés (or Regulidae ) belongs to the class of the Oiseau X and to the order of the Passériformes. She includes/understands the 6 species of kinglets belonging all to the kind Regulus .

Their surface of distribution covers the zones Néarctique (North America) and Paléarctique (of the Europe and the North Africa until in Siberia and to the Japan).

Systematic position

Formerly classified in the family of the sylviidés , the kinglets are now regarded as the only representatives of the family of régulidés.

Biology

With a length from 8 to 9 cm and a mass from 5 to 6 G, they are the smallest birds of Europe. They nourish Insectes, of Araignée S and eggs of insects. Their Nest suspended with a branch of conifers or shrub presents a higher opening often invisible, because very reduced. The incubation from 5 to 10 hard-boiled eggs 17 days. Only the female broods, but the two parents contribute to the breeding of the young people during three weeks.
