Register epidictic

Corresponding to the conclusive kind of the Antiquity, to the great speeches celebrating of the heroes or denouncing the misdeeds and the defects of the enemies, the register epidictic calls upon the praise or the blame.

An art of rhetoric and esthetics

Sometimes with the detriment of the truth and objectivity, the register epidictic concerns:

of the nonliterary kinds (publicity ® to praise a product by the praise)
of the literary kinds (funeral orations, portraits in the account, blazons…)

It is often present in the portraits, giving place to a idealization of the model or its caricature.

Recurring processes

an eulogistic or dépréciatif vocabulary according to the will of the author, resting on the use of sometimes hyperbolic modalisateurs
of the oppositions, of the antitheses, to develop (or devalue)
a relationship with the lyric register when the speaker gives up himself with the emotions which push it to admire or to scorn something/somebody.
