Created in 1995 by a decree of May 9th, the regional natural park of French Vexin extends on 94 communes from the department S from the Val-d'Oise and the Yvelines. It covers a surface of 65.670 hectares including 53.686 ha in the Val-d'Oise (77 communes) and 11.984 ha in the Yvelines (17 communes) and concerns directly nearly 80.000 inhabitants.

For general information on the territory of French Vexin in itself, to see the article French Vexin

Territory

The Park currently counts six city-doors, not entered in the 94 communes of the park: the the Community of agglomeration of Cergy-Pontoise, the the Community of agglomeration of Mantes-in-Yvelines as well as the communes of Issou, Juziers, Limay (Canton of Limay) and of Meulan (canton of the same name).

Certain communes include/understand only part of their territory in the perimeter of the park, but they do not remain about it less not entered in the total of the 94 communes which compose it. It acts, in the Val-d'Oise, of the communes of Champagne-on-Oise, Ronquerolles (Canton of Beaumont-on-Oise), Boissy-l' Aillerie (Canton of Cergy-North) and, in Yvelines, of the communes of Gargenville, Guitrancourt (canton of Limay) and the Mézy-on-Seine (Canton of Meulan).

The natural park recovers only the south and the center of historical and geographical French Vexin, except for the urbanized communes, such its historical capital Pontoise, the length of the Seine or Oise. The historical and geographical north of French Vexin, around Chaumont-in-Vexin is in the Département of Oise (Picardy). Only two communes of the Val-d'Oise included in the perimeter envisaged did not sign the charter and remained apart from the park: Vault-in-Vexin and Ambleville.

The inclusion of the communes of the Canton of Chaumont-in-Vexin, envisaged in the beginning, did not know a continuation; indeed, a park managed by three departments and two areas (Ile-de-France and Picardy) seemed with difficulty gérable at the time. Considering creation in 2004 with little distance from the Regional natural park Oise-Country of France, managed by the two quoted areas, it is not impossible in the long term that the Vexinoises communes of the Département of Oise join the perimeter of the natural park.

Its head office, called “house of the park”, is installed since the December 4th 1995 in the castle of Théméricourt (Val-d'Oise). This castle also accommodates in its commun runs, the Musée of French Vexin.

Actions

The zone of the park is primarily devoted to the Agriculture. The maintenance and the development of this traditional activity, by directing it towards diversification and the respect of the environment, are one of the principal orientations of the policy pursued by the regional park.

The logo - an undulating corn ear and a pattée cross - evokes the agricultural vocation of French Vexin and the richness of its historical heritage.

The charter of the park over the period 2007-2019 must be renewed and revised before the end of the year 2007.

Administrative cutting of the territory of the Park

The geographical perimeter of the Regional natural park of French Vexin recovers 94 communes of the 167 which compose the geographical territory of the corresponding natural area (either 56%). The park extends on two departments from Île-de-France: the Yvelines and the Val-d'Oise

The territory covered by the Park recuts two district: the District of Pontoise (Val-d'Oise) and the District of Mantes-the-Pretty (Yvelines). Being the cantons, the Park includes/understands whole or part of the following cantons:

Whole cantons of the Val-d'Oise are entirely included in the perimeter of the park: those of Navy (19 communes), of Valley-of-Sausseron (12 communes), and of Vigny (18 communes). The canton of Magny-in-Vexin account 24 communes (out of 26) in the park, cantons of Isle-Adam, and Cergy - Northern only one each one, respectively Parmain and Boissy-l' Aillerie, whereas the canton of Beaumont-on-Oise counts of them two Champagne-on-Oise and Ronquerolles. In Yvelines, the canton of Limay includes/understands thirteen communes of which whole or part of the territory is included in the park, the canton of Meulan three and the canton of the Bonnières-on-Seine one (Gommecourt).
