Regional committee of construction

The regional committees of construction (JRC) are organized by the Témoins of Jéhovah in the majority of the countries of the world in order to supervise the construction and the maintenance of their places of worship, known under the name of Salles of the Kingdom (for the weekly meetings) and of Salles from assemblies (for their large annual gatherings).

Objective

The objective of such committees, which are composed usually each of five to seven people experienced in the activities of construction, is to coordinate the efforts of those implied in order to provide at the same time attractive and functional places of worship, and that at prices more the possible tiny rooms.

History

Taking into account an increasing demand of places of worship jehovists, the regional committees of construction were born about the middle of the year 1986, and the Société Watchtower, the world direction of the religious movement, started to coordinate this activity. In 1987, 60 regional committees of construction were formed in the whole of the the United States; then these committees internationalized themselves, and the subsidiary companies of the Société Watchtower received detailed informations on this subject.

Starting from September 1st of this year, in France, there were five regional committees of construction for Salles of the Kingdom named by the Société Watchtower.

Procedures

In fact mainly old (local supervisors) are selected to be useful in these committees, and in general the majority of them have also experience in fields such as the real estate, engineering, construction, the businesses, safety and other fields.

The committee of construction must be consulted by the congregations if:

  • They wish to choose a ground to build their clean Salle of the Kingdom; they must moreover consult the supervisors of old district and the of the close congregations.

  • They envisaged to renovate and improve a Salle of the Kingdom already existente (it can be a question, for example, maintenance of the fitteds carpet, maintenance of the air-conditioning and heating appliances, or to cure problems of moisture).

  • They want to increase their installations (for example to accommodate a certain number of congregations joined together at the time of the assembled district and one day special assembled ).

Then, the committee evaluates the suitability of a possible building site, by buying the ground and the materials and is given the responsability to gather the skilled labor among the faithful ones specialized in more than 65 trade associations. Those work voluntarily, without being remunerated.

Possibly, in the event of disaster, the committees can ask their volunteers to take part in work of help towards their co-religionists, as it was the case in 1999 in the islands of the the Antilles.

Statistics

In 1992, the regional committees of construction indicated by the Company helped to build Rooms of the Kingdom in South Africa, in Germany, Argentine, Australia, with the Canada, in Spain, France, Great Britain, with the Japan and the Mexico. When it was necessary to call upon other subsidiary companies to build a Salle of the Kingdom, provisions were taken with the world seat Société Watchtower.

In certain parts of the world, new rooms were built in a few days; elsewhere, in a few weeks or a few months. The number of the workers taking part in a construction was tiny room thanks to these committees: there was not seldom more than 200 at the same time, and those were present only when one needed them.

The press sometimes mentioned these committee of construction at the time of the construction of a Salle of the Kingdom.
