Rebound (basketball)

The rebound is a term used in the Basket-ball to define the fact of collecting the ball when a shot does not return in the basket.

There exist two categories of rebound.

The first is the defensive rebound: it is when the adversary attacks but the ball in the basket at the time of a shot does not return. Thus the fact of catching the ball in its camp constitutes a defensive rebound.

The second category of rebound is the offensive rebound, i.e. when its own team attacks but does not return the ball in the basket at the time of a shot. Thus the fact of catching the ball in the opposing side constitutes an offensive rebound.

An offensive rebound ending in a dunk is called clapper .

The specialists in the rebound are Kevin Garnett, Ben Wallace and more recently, Dwight Howard. In the past, one eput quoted as specialists Wilt Chamberlain (who holds besides the record with 55 rebounds), Bill Russell or Dennis Rodman.
