Rebellion of Shimabara

The rebellion of Shimabara (島原の乱, Shimabara No ran?) was a revolt of Japanese peasants, for the majority Christians during the Shogunat Tokugawa in 1637-1638.

If the rebels were in Christians majority, the reason of rising against the Daimyo Matsukura Shigeharu were primarily tax.

After several battles, they ended up being besieged with Shimabara where the troops of Shogun inflicted a defeat to them. Approximately: 37000 rebels perished during the combat or were carried out with their chief Amkusa Tokisada of its true name Shirō. This last carried out the rebels during their rising but was decapitated during the battle by Jinno Sazaemon of the clan Hosokawa.
