Read-the-Cross-high

Read-the-Cross-High is a common French, located in the department of the Drome and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

Read-the-Cross-high is the highest commune of the department of the Drome, with a maximum altitude of 2400 meters. The commune borders the departments of Isere and Hautes-Alpes, between the solid mass of the Dévoluy to the East and the Diois in the West. Read-the-Cross-high is halfway between Clelles and Aspres-on-Buëch.

History

Towards l´an millet, High Read-the-Cross was a share of seigniory of Triéves, which was the property of old the counts de Die. The bishops of Die joueait a considerable role has history of this area. One its vassal principal was the family Odde de Bonniot, Co-Lords of Vercors, etc. ; chivalrous family originating in High Read-the-Cross and its surroundings, passed to Vivarais, Orange, Velay and during the wars of religion in the Netherlands.
