Rasht
Rasht رشت is the capital of the province of the Gilan in the North-West of the Iran. It is a major commercial place between the the Caucasus, the Russia and Iran thanks to the port of Bandar-E Anzali. Rasht is also a major tourist center.
Geography and climate
Rasht is brood between the littoral one of the Caspian Sea and the slopes of the chain of the Elbourz on one of the arms of the Sefid Roud. It is located at 317 km by the road in the North-West of Teheran and at approximately 30 km of the Caspian Sea. Rasht has a wet, rainy and windy climate. A wind of the North-West blows of Caspian (in direction of south-west). Rasht receives approximately 1000-1200 mm of annual precipitations in the form of rain. The temperature seldom falls in lower part from 0°C and the average maximum temperature was of 20,9°C in 1996.
Population and culture
The population of Rasht is Gilak (speaking the Gilaki, the Persan one or the Taleshi, a distinct dialect mixing the Persan and the Azeri ).
History

The city knew the time Sassanide, the armies of Pierre Large the (it there was signed in 1732 a peace treaty between Persia and Russia) and later the domination of the Russians and British colonialism. People of Rasht also played a big role in during the constitutional Révolution of Iran through the Mouvement constitutionnalist of Gilan.

- 1901: an epidemic of plague decimates the city.
- 1917 - 1920: the Russian and British troops fight in the port city of Bandar-E Anzali and with Rasht. The British withdraw themselves and Russian occupies the area. In 1920, the Russians Bolsheviks put fire at the bazaar, causing the temporary exile of many inhabitants.
- 1937 : a revolt, caused by the Russian project to collect a “granting” is repressed
