Ranavalona II
Ranavalona II was sovereign Royaume of Madagascar of 1868 to 1883.
Before adopting its name of reign, it bore the name of Ramoma and was the cousin of its predecessor, the Queen Rasoherina. Converted with the Protestantism as of before its accession with the throne (consecutively with the choice of the Prime Minister Rainilaiarivony which was also going to become, on the legal level, its husband as a representative of the Hova), it is made crown as a Christian queen, a first in its country. A little later Rainilaiarivony converts in its turn, thus making Protestantism the official religion of the kingdom. The reign of Ranavalona II is characterized by a fast occidentalization of its country, grace in particular to an intense co-operation with the missionary S British. While the schools multiply, the economy develops and the laws of the kingdom know a beginning of written coding. Popular reviews appear, as well as a scientific English magazine, the Antananarivo Annual . The last period of the reign is however saddened by the beginnings of the war which impose on the kingdom the colonial ambitions French.
